When I was a young girl in Poland, I would walk with my mother to the local market to find fresh produce each day. Our food market was packed with local farmers proudly offering their bright and colorful harvests. The items we brought home would then be prepared as we sliced, diced, pickled, bottled, baked, and cooked everything by hand, creating authentic Polish foods for the family. Back in the old country, this was a daily ritual, and we knew no other way. There was no take-out or delivery from a local Polish restaurant, and we did not have processed foods. Instead, we enjoyed eating directly from the farm to the table, as everything was certified organic, free-range, and prepared by hand. To us, it was just another dinner.
As I look back on those times 40 years ago, I can see that times have changed. Our children have grown to become parents themselves and the world has become fast-paced. But when it comes to our family’s table, old-world traditions remain with the European food styles and preparation methods that I grew with.
That same traditional fare is now becoming more popular, as there is a newfound appreciation for organic, hand-crafted meals that can even be found in some American restaurants. For more than 25 years, we have served those traditional hand-made, organic, and high-quality meats, fruits, and vegetables here at Red Apple Buffet.
We have learned many things over the years, but the one thing that stands out is that family is most important and the food that binds us together gives us a sense of history to bring us together.
